Healthcare Investments Signal Clinton County’s Growth and Rising Quality of Life

News

Clinton County is no longer a community that must rely on regional metros for advanced medical care. With more than $100 million in active healthcare investments, four major healthcare providers are expanding their footprint across Wilmington and the surrounding region.

New services, facilities, and partnerships now allow more residents to access high-quality care locally, eliminating the need to drive to Dayton, Cincinnati, or Columbus for essential treatment. This shift marks a strategic inflection point.

Healthcare infrastructure is no longer playing catch-up. It’s becoming a growth indicator.

Clinton Diabetes Clinic Expands Local Chronic Care Access

The newly opened Clinton Diabetes Clinic is providing a critical layer of chronic disease management within Clinton County. Under the clinical leadership of Cheyenne Gasaway, CNP, BC-ADM, the clinic offers:

  • Personalized diabetes education
  • Prevention and risk reduction programs
  • Long-term care management for chronic diabetes
  • Nutrition and medication consultations

The clinic is staffed by specialists trained in managing Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes. Patients no longer need to travel to urban centers for ongoing management. The presence of a local, dedicated clinic improves access, particularly for those managing multiple conditions or limited by transportation.

This clinic expands CMH’s outpatient service offerings and helps reduce long-term health costs in the region through better prevention and disease control. It is a measurable addition to the county’s care infrastructure.

TriHealth Acquisition of Clinton Memorial Hospital Expands Services and System Integration

TriHealth’s acquisition of Clinton Memorial Hospital (CMH) marks a structural shift in the way healthcare is delivered in Clinton County. Once finalized, this integration will bring CMH into a regional health system with proven experience operating rural hospitals while maintaining strong ties to local providers.

As part of the TriHealth network, CMH gains direct access to expanded clinical expertise, including service lines in cardiology, oncology, women’s health, and stroke care. These resources remain available locally while linking patients to advanced tertiary care in the TriHealth system when necessary.

The move also positions CMH for long-term operational stability. TriHealth has stated that it will continue to provide the financial and technological infrastructure to strengthen CMH’s service offerings, while preserving its legacy of nearly 75 years of continuous service in the county.

The transition builds on a long-standing partnership. TriHealth has delivered obstetrics services and maintained a nine-provider primary care practice at CMH since 2022. The acquisition formalizes and expands these collaborative efforts.

Kettering Health to Build $90M Hospital in Wilmington

Kettering Health is investing $90 million in a full-scale redevelopment of its current Wilmington site, transforming the facility into a new regional hospital. Construction is already underway, with the emergency department scheduled to open first, followed by a full-service hospital buildout expected by Q3 2026.

The new facility will more than double the square footage of the existing center, from approximately 35,000 to 71,000 square feet. This expansion includes:

  • Emergency care with advanced diagnostic capabilities
  • Surgical suites for inpatient and outpatient procedures
  • Hospital beds for acute inpatient care
  • Specialty care, including oncology services
  • Full-service imaging and lab capacity
  • Infusion services for cancer treatment

The facility will be built to support a patient-centered care model, allowing individuals to be treated by their primary care providers during hospital stays. This model reduces the disruption of care transitions and creates a more seamless patient experience.

Kettering Health Wilmington Health Center, which opened in 2023, was the first step in the organization’s commitment to Clinton County. The full hospital project cements its role as a key provider in the region. This investment supports anticipated population growth and aligns with local economic indicators, including rising job creation and new housing developments.

VA Expands Services for Veterans in Wilmington

A decade in the making, the VA has opened a newly expanded Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Wilmington, significantly increasing the size and scope of services for Veterans living in and around Clinton County. This clinic marks a significant regional investment with it being the farthest west clinic in the Chillicothe system.

Key upgrades include:

  • Facility expansion from 2,000 to nearly 7,000 square feet
  • Five exam rooms and three consultation rooms
  • Integration of telehealth services for multiple specialties
  • Full behavioral health and clinical pharmacy access
  • Delivery of complex services, including accelerated resolution therapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and specialty care through Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT)

The CBOC supports over 1,100 local Veterans. With its new capabilities, it delivers consistent, coordinated care under the VA’s Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. This configuration emphasizes continuity and tailored treatment planning for Veterans with physical and behavioral health needs.

The expansion directly addresses the service gap many rural Veterans face, particularly for behavioral health, telehealth, and chronic care. It also reduces delays in treatment, improves the efficiency of specialty referrals, and ensures long-term care planning remains centered around patient outcomes.

Cincinnati Children’s Opens Pediatric Clinic for Local Families

Cincinnati Children’s Wilmington Primary Care opened in January 2025, bringing pediatric services closer to home for families in Clinton County and surrounding areas. The 3,875-square-foot facility, located at 1150 W. Locust St., Suite 500, offers comprehensive pediatric care under the guidance of two highly experienced local physicians.

Jeffrey Manser, MD, who served Wilmington families for 32 years, and Tina Gabbard, MD, a family physician with over 30 years of experience, lead the clinic. Both physicians have deep roots in the community, and their combined expertise ensures that children receive attentive and personalized care. The clinic is fully staffed with a pediatric care team, including a registered nurse, medical assistants, and support staff, with plans to add another pediatrician.

Wilmington Primary Care is the only pediatric-specific primary care office in the city, meaning every aspect of care is designed around children’s unique health needs. As part of Cincinnati Children’s, one of the nation’s top pediatric health systems, the clinic provides access to a vast network of specialists should more advanced care be necessary.

Healthcare Development as a Sign of Community Growth

The expansion of Clinton County’s healthcare system does more than serve immediate needs. It increases the community’s long-term competitiveness.

Investments from TriHealth, Kettering Health, the VA, and Clinton Memorial Hospital are creating a comprehensive, modern care environment that rivals what’s available in larger cities. For families considering relocation, businesses evaluating workforce readiness, or developers looking to build in growth markets, high-quality healthcare access is a decisive factor. Clinton County now delivers on that front.

This surge in infrastructure investment represents a broader shift. Local healthcare is no longer reactive. It’s a catalyst for continued growth.
