We’re witnessing a huge transformation in the Clinton County workforce thanks to the Ohio TechCred program. In an era where technological advancements are rapid, the Ohio TechCred program stands as a testament to the power of strategic upskilling, proving that investment in employee development is key to sustained business success. Launched by the State of Ohio in 2019, the program helps Ohioans learn new skills needed in a technology-infused economy. It also helps businesses of all shapes and sizes to fill open jobs and advance the skills of their current employees.

Ohio TechCred Empowers Local Businesses and the Local Workforce

Companies in Clinton County are investing in their employees to help them develop their careers, learn new skills, and grow with their business. In the last four years, the TechCred program has awarded nearly 200 credentials, amounting to over $280,000 in value to employers in Clinton County.

Ahresty Wilmington Corporation

One of those companies, Ahresty, a key player in the auto parts manufacturing industry, has seen steady growth over the years. Since its founding in 1988, the company has dedicated much of its business operations to staying current with technology. Ahresty has established an efficient integrated production system that incorporates die-casting, finishing, machining, and assembly operations using just-in-time production methods.

To remain competitive and continue to deliver high quality products at a competitive price, the company recognizes that it must stay on the cutting edge of technology. Ahresty became part of the TechCred program in 2021, offering employees various training program opportunities in Microsoft Excel, CAD, and Robotics. The company has seen a substantial return on investment, saving upwards of $50,000 in the first year alone. Ahresty has used TechCred across all levels of the company: top management, front line leadership, hourly associates, front office staff, and for new hires to help recruit them to the company.

FERNO

FERNO, a global provider of pre-hospital emergency care solutions, serves more than 100 countries, partnering with EMS customers, caregivers, and safety and regulatory agencies to create a new vision for the delivery of emergency care. Its mission – pursuing innovation in its products to advance the standard of care while preserving the dignity of life – wouldn’t be reachable without paying acute attention to the latest technology trends and industry regulations.

“The TechCred program helps our employees grow in their careers to ensure we continue adapting to the ever-changing world of technology,” said Eric Salyers, General Manager of Domestic Operations at FERNO. For budget-minded organizations like FERNO, offering robust training options through the TechCred program allows them to continue to compete more effectively in the marketplace.

Growth in the State and the Region

The State of Ohio offers many incentives for large companies, like a 0% state tax on corporate income, close proximity to 60% of U.S. and Canadian populations, and one of the best manufacturing workforces in the country. Because of this, many high profile companies are bringing their operations and manufacturing arms to the state.

Intel’s 1,000-acre semiconductor manufacturing plant is expected to open just outside Columbus in New Albany in 2026. The company says it will employ over 7,000 with an average yearly salary of $135,000. In 2025, the joint venture battery plant of LG Energy Solutions and Honda is set to open in Fayette County, bringing over 2,200 high-tech, highly skilled jobs to the region.

With even more companies looking for new homes, Southwestern Ohio’s workforce has a lot to offer these companies with over 1 million people in the workforce and growing – 40 percent of those working in scientific, mathematics, operations, material movement, manufacturing, production, and more highly-skilled industries. And it’s important for businesses in Clinton County to continue investing in our current and future workforce, not only to empower and retain, but to attract even more to the area.
