This year marked the “10 + 1” Anniversary of the donation of Wilmington Air Park to the Clinton County Port Authority, as well as the one-year anniversary of air cargo operations returning to it, and the big news just keeps coming. Clinton County Port Authority wrapped up National Aviation Week with a significant announcement: Ohio Business Magazine named Wilmington Air Park one of the top three airports in all of Ohio. Voting is open to see if they will claim “Best Airport in Ohio” for a second year in a row.
Wilmington Air Park landed in the top three based on nomination criteria that reviewed airport capacity, technical and navigational abilities, infrastructure, location, ease of access, and community impact. The awards are now up to the votes of community members, employees, and friends of the airports to determine which airport takes the top spot.
There is no shortage of reasons why Wilmington Air Park is worthy of honors, but they can be summed up as a superior central location and excellence in logistics, manufacturing, and aviation. The business of Wilmington Air Park is more than taking to the skies, it’s what happens on the ground, too.
Wilmington Air Park is an integrated aviation and logistics business park located on 1,900 acres strategically located in central Ohio between Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton with easy access to I-71 and within 600 miles of 61 percent of all U.S. and Canadian manufacturing locations. The Air Park features nearly three million square feet of industrial, office, and hangar space. Aerospace, manufacturing, and cargo companies, in particular, find Wilmington Air Park an ideal business location.
Approximately 90-100 large-frame aircraft land at the Part 139 airport every week, the majority of which are 767s. The Air Park handles this with two runways, flexible landing schedules, plentiful aprons, and on-site aircraft maintenance. The Air Park is a Foreign Trade Zone Designation and boasts an array of state and local incentive programs.
In 2021, the Air Park was once again the highest volume cargo airport in Ohio, rising to 31st in the national rankings. Cargo totaling 475 million pounds passed through it in the 12 months from May 2020 to May 2021. Supply chain logistics and aviation brings an impressive 903 jobs to Clinton County and generates millions of dollars of income for the community and its employees.
